Total Time: Under an hour

2 tbsp butter or margarine
2 tbsp shortening
1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak (cut in cubes)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper (or to taste)
2 sliced onions
1/2 pound sliced mushrooms
4 tbsp flour
1 (10 oz) can beef broth bouillon
1 (10 oz) can water
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
2 tbsp ketchup
1 bay leaf
1 tsp thyme

Melt butter and shortening in a large frying pan and add steak. Cook steak until brown, adding salt and pepper. Just before meat is brown, add onions and mushrooms. Cook a little longer. Sprinkle with 4 tbsp flour and stir. Slowly add bouillon and then water, stirring constantly. Then add Worcestershire Sauce, ketchup, bay leaf and thyme. Cover and cook on low heat for 3/4 hour, stirring occasionally. Add sour cream before serving. Serve over hot rice, noodles or boiled potatoes.
