Blueberry Cottage Pudding

2 cups blueberries
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp grated lemon rind (zest)
1 1/3 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 cup milk
Combine berries, sugar and lemon rind. Place in a greased 8x8 pan. Mix remaining ingredients and put on top of the berry layer. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes.
